The Au-Pair is not a waiter, janitor, or housekeeper. This means that it is not your job to clean the entire house or the bedroom of the host parents. Additionally, it is not your obligation to clean the bathrooms and toilets. Washing windows and cars, doing gardening or handy work do not belong to your duties either. You cannot be held responsible for taking care of possible elderly’s living in the house or supervising neighbors’ children.
Your host family is not allowed to oblige you to do any of these tasks. However, if it does not bother you, you are welcomed to help whenever is needed. Please note that the time you spend on these additional duties need to be added up to your working hours.
