We are in the middle of the Chilean winter vacations and even if they only last a few more days, the Chilean winter itself will stay at least all through August. Weekend trips to the Andes ski resorts are a popular pastime for many au pair host families – but of course you cannot do that every day…
Since the winter in the southern hemisphere, in contrast to the north, is not peppered with Christmas preparations and traditions, you have to come up with fun things to do, so that this rather “gray” season is not all that “fooooome” (boring), as Chilean children would say.
Here are a few tips to make the rest of winter in Santiago exciting and educational:
The MIM (Museo Interactivo Mirador) is a really spectacular place to go and worth a day trip. Children learn playfully about physics, chemistry, nature, space and much more – everyone comes out thrilled and learns something new!
Until Sunday there will be a “moon station” in addition to the normal exhibitions, to remember the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. This part offers exciting experiments and explanations about the moon landing and space travelling. If you arrive before 10:30, you will receive a reduced entrance fee.

There are also wild dinosours in Santiago! The interactive exhibition “Dinosaurios Alive” at Estacion Mapocho features dino-animatronics in life size, action on three stages and an interesting exhibition with different thematic zones.

Your host children have too much energy and are jumping around all the time? Take them to Mall Plaza La Florida to “Jump City Park”. The world´s largest bouncy castle in the world is to be found there until the end of August.
